Collaborating for Growth

Posted on April 11 2016

Last week was an exciting week for this emerging designer.  A lot of activity centered around letting people know about the Steve Guthrie brand and the e-store, as well as what we are doing next.  Key to that off it though was collaboration.  And believe me, our time was full of it.

Steve Guthrie and Tom Combs HomeI started the week off on the heels of a wonderful shoot with Michael Hunter and Alton LaDay of Alton LaDay Media. These two guys worked with me and my partner to stage and photograph my home for a project that we are working on.  More details to come soon.

Then I worked with the UH Small Business Development Center.  Business Advisors LeeVera Smith and Doug Baumann sat me down to catch up on how I am doing and where I am headed next.  They are truly vested in helping me setup and grow a successful business.

Steve Guthrie at FGI Houston BreakfastOn Thursday, I attended a Fashion Group International - Houston Members breakfast.  Special Projects Digital Producer Crystal Isaac of ABC KTRK HOUSTON talked us through how to get digital media attention.  What a wonderful opportunity to extend my network because I also met International MakeUp Artist Steven Coleman, Stanton Scott of New Orleans born Katie Scott Jewelry, freelance writer, author and content producer for HotinHoustonNow Valerie Sweeten and talent agency owner Anissa S. Campbell.

Authentically.B Brandy Gueary in the Steve Guthrie StudioAnd finally, I fitted Brandy Gueary of Authentically.B DIY fame for a project we are working on. While going through the various looks we were lucky enough to have Sarah Shah of Imagine Unlimited capture the moment for her social media following.  And of course we couldn't have done it without the wonderful assistance of one of my interns Kisa Williams.  Kisa is a student in the Houston Community College Fashion Design program , and a fabulous handbag designer (as well as other things).

It was a long, hard week - especially with a broken leg. But the ability to meet or collaborate with all of these wonderful people made it all worth it.

Now then, go to our website and support us by purchasing a garment from the E-store, leaving comments / feedback about this post or the website, or by signing up for our monthly newsletter that will begin this week.

Hope you have a great week!

Steve
